10 Ways to Be a Better Father & Husband http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/14/10-ways-to-be-a-better-father-husband/ http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/14/10-ways-to-be-a-better-father-husband/#comments Thu, 15 Jul 2010 00:38:24 +0000 Tredell Dorsey, M.Ed http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/14/

Finger Family by melodious707Today I was sitting at work thinking of how I can be a better father and husband.

I have to find the balance of being a great father and husband, but how? It seems that when you give more to one you lack with the other. So how do you manage this situation so that everyone is happy including yourself? Well after days of thinking about how to change for the better; how to be effective and successful at both, I came up with the following suggestions:

  1. Pray for your family alone and together.
  2. Tell your kids and your wife that you love them every day.
  3. Make time to do activities with both your kids and wife together as a family.
  4. Take time to tell your wife how much  you appreciate the things she does on a daily basis
  5. Sit down and talk to your kids about their day and ask questions
  6. Listen with your eyes, ears and hands. Let her know she’s the focus.
  7. Send her flowers or a card just because.
  8. Plan a date with your wife and make the night all about her. You can do the same with the kids.
  9. Be honest and transparent when engaging in conversation with respect.
  10. Call in the middle of the day and tell her you can’t stop thinking about how lucky you are to have her in your life.

Now, these are 10 things that I’m in the process of doing in my quest in being a better husband and father.  Remember your family is important so like you work hard at your job work even harder on your family.

What ways can you become a better husband and father?

Why Do You Sag Skinny Jeans? http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/13/why-do-you-sag-skinny-jeans/ http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/13/why-do-you-sag-skinny-jeans/#comments Wed, 14 Jul 2010 02:44:38 +0000 Tredell Dorsey, M.Ed http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/13/

Okay, so I’m at a club with my wife  last week and couldn’t help but  notice how many guys where sagging skinny jeans.  Is this the new fad? Does this  turn women on because they can see your underwear?

Let me give you guys some words of advice, walking like a duck with your underwear or a pair of shorts showing looks absolutely stupid! The funny but sad thing is these dudes wear tight shirts also. What the heck is that all about?  It doesn’t matter if you’re fat, average or skinny it’s not cool to sag your skinny jeans with a big belt wrapped around your thighs.

Also, big boys please give it up because they really don’t make you look skinny—but it is okay to dream. Why would you where skinny jeans and you’re over 300lbs?  Where are your friends? Not a cool look.

Do Cute Kids Justify Procreation? http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/09/do-cute-kids-justify-procreation/ http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/09/do-cute-kids-justify-procreation/#comments Fri, 09 Jul 2010 03:05:08 +0000 Tredell Dorsey, M.Ed http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/?p=76

Why do people suggest that attractive couples with attractive kids should keep trying for a girl if there are only boys in the family? Do unattractive couples get the same advice?

My wife and I are asked “are you going to try for a girl” several times a week as the same stranger rubs one of our boys’ heads. “They are so handsome. You should go on and do it.”

Of course I’m thinking “we practice all the time but not really ready to play the big game yet.”

But sometimes I wonder if couples with not so attractive kids get asked the same question.  I know you are probably thinking that’s wrong but it’s what I think about.

Do you know of any unattractive couples that get ask  the question, “ Hey are you guys going to try for girl?” Or, do people look at an unattractive couple with unattractive kids and think “Hey guys you are great parents you ever thought about adopting instead of having another?”

I have always wondered why unattractive couples have more kids than attractive couples.   Have you?  The next time you see an unattractive couple with kids say, “Hey you guys should try for a girl.” I wonder what they will say.

This is from my perspective. What do you think?

Stop Rubbing My Child’s Head http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/08/stop-rubbing-my-childs-head/ http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2010/07/08/stop-rubbing-my-childs-head/#comments Thu, 08 Jul 2010 00:49:52 +0000 Tredell Dorsey, M.Ed http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/?p=72

Why do random people feel like they can grab, touch, or hug your child?
What is even more aggravating is when strangers rub my child’s head? It’s funny that older people really feel like it is okay to touch other peoples’ kids without getting the parent’s permission.
I would like to flip the script and rub their heads and pinch their cheeks because strangers are so adorable. What type of response do you think an adult will get from that type of behavior? Probably a “what the hell is wrong with you” or “don’t touch me” or “I’m turning you in for assault!”
So, to my older women and men: just because someone else’s kids remind you of your grand kids it doesn’t mean you can touch them or hug them! So a word of advice the next time you think about rubbing a child’s head please understand and be prepared to get your head rubbed in return! How about that?

You want things but you do not have them. So you are ready to kill and or jealous of other people but you still can not get what you want. So you argue and fight. You do not get what you want, because you do not ask God. Or when you ask, you do not recieve because the reason you ask is wrong. You want things so you can use them for your on pleasures. So, you are not loyal to God! You should no that loving the world is the same thing as hating God. Anyone who wants to be a friend of the world becomes Gods enemy.

Whats the deal with the pink shoes … on men? http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2009/08/29/whats-the-deal-with-the-pink-shoes-on-men/ http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2009/08/29/whats-the-deal-with-the-pink-shoes-on-men/#comments Sat, 29 Aug 2009 23:31:38 +0000 Tredell Dorsey, M.Ed http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/?p=58

Should men really wear these?

Should men really wear these?

Okay people I know i’m going to strike some nerves here but I really don’t care. Whats with the young college guys wearing the pink shoes and putting color in there dreds/braids? I’m sorry but I really have a problem with any man/boy wearing pink low/high top converse. Now, don’t get me wrong I don’t see anything wrong with wearing this color in a tie or dress shirt but pink shoes and color streaks in your hair. Give me a break!!! Please add your comments. We have to do better.

The School Uniform Rule http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2009/08/29/the-school-uniform-rule/ http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2009/08/29/the-school-uniform-rule/#comments Sat, 29 Aug 2009 23:19:30 +0000 Tredell Dorsey, M.Ed http://dorseypublications.com/tdorsey/2009/08/29/the-school-uniform-rule/

Are school uniforms hurting our youths creativity? My 5-year-old son has started his first year of big boy school. Watching him get his bag together for school is so amazing to me because I can still remember when he was crawling on the floor begging for cheerios. The thing that’s new to me is the uniform mandate!! I think this takes away from the creativity, style and personality development/expression of children. When I first went to the school to pick him up I saw all the kids dressed in khakis and a blue or white shirt. My first thought was “wow this looks like an upscale prison”.
Another thing I didn’t agree with was the right to spank our children if they’re disobedient. The only way you can get out of this is to write a note to the principal.
I remember when you could express yourself and wear what you wanted. There were rules set as boundaries for young minds but children were allowed to be creative and to be themselves.
What do you think about the uniform rule?
What's with the school uniforms?
